All I can say after that vacation is… I need another vacation! Nah, it wasn’t that bad, but I will say, if you have a baby and you plan on traveling on a plane somewhere, you HAVE to be prepared! You HAVE to be organized! You HAVE to have plenty of COFFEE!
Mario and I couldn’t wait to take our little Sasha away from this wicked winter on the East Coast! This winter has been brutal and Sasha and I have been inside all winter. We picked Scottsdale Arizona, first because we lived there and I missed it so much! The other reason is well, because you are guaranteed PERFECT weather EVERYDAY! It doesn’t rain there but maybe 5-10 times a year.
Mario picked the resort. There are so many to choose from, it all depends on what you are looking for. We wanted something nice, quiet and serene- Hence the name “SANCTUARY Resort & Spa”. I knew it wouldn’t be a family oriented type of resort, and I was a little worried about that, but whatever, all I cared about what that we were getting outta here!
Packing for Sasha started three weeks before our trip. Not even kidding! Once you know where you will be traveling to, you need to pack appropriately. We packed the pack and play and didn’t use it once. We didn’t even open it. Read your baby’s vibes. Sasha was giving us vibes that she wasn’t comfy there. She wanted to be with us, so she slept with us in our big comfy bed.
Arizona is HOT- Plain and simple, however, in March the nights are beautifully cool, anywhere from 50-65. First thing I ordered was Sasha’s sunblock, bath soap, and body lotion. It’s dry there and the water is hard, so after a shower or bath, you NEED to moisturize.
Here is what I packed for Sasha:
Knowing we would be by the pool, we ordered Sasha an infant floaty with a canopy. She also wore a hat, because babies need to have their scalps covered, especially there!
ON to the POOL STUFF:
I LOVED this float! Swimaways Baby Float . It comes in a round little zip plastic cover, which is easy to travel with. I didn’t even open it until we got to AZ. Sasha LOVED it! She would kick away while daddy pushed her around the pool.
Sasha was the only little baby which in a way was nice because we had the pool to ourselves and no crazy kids jumping and diving near her.
We were just in heaven with her. She lasted about 25 minutes in the floaty, but then wanted her daddy to hold her, and then mommy to hold her up and act as if she were jumping in the pool! She’s a little daredevil!
Her swim suits were to die for! SO freaking cute, EVERYONE who worked at the pool died over her.
Sasha did better than expected at the pool. What we would do is go to breakfast around 7am, she would eat a little, but than want her bottle. So we would feed her the bottle as we walked around. She would nap, and we would get ready for the pool. When she would wake up, we knew we would have an hour and a half before she would nap again, so we would go down to the pool. I would pack her stroller with books, toys, a bottle and her cover-up. After some fun in the sun, she would play for a little under the umbrella with her toys, until she got crabby- which is a red flag for us to give her the bottle. She would sleep in her stroller while we got to just relax and get some sun.
Toys I packed for our trip:
One thing I learned is that you want to keep your baby HAPPY, OCCUPIED and QUIET- on the plane. So, I decided to go and get Sasha some new little books and new LAMAZA toys (which are her FAV’S). I did also bring some of her HOME favorite toys and blankies so she does have some FAMILIAR things to remind her of home. When you leave your home to stay in a hotel on vacation, the baby knows. Sasha would look around the room constantly- I wanted her to feel safe and secure.
So for the plane ride, I got her a back pack & suitcase of course with her name on it! I ordered it from Pottery Barn. It’s light & cute. Both pieces I was able to bring on the plane. The backpack had a few diapers & wipes, some baby food, her books and toys. The Suitcase had rest of her diapers, her swim diapers, my makeup, shoes, and Sasha’s blankies. I put her clothes and mine in my luggage. It was the perfect amount of space. Oh yes, and Violet & Max came too. They are her best buddies!
I picked up some organic baby food from a few different brands… NONE of which she was crazy about. She LOVES her momma’s food- it’s that simple! SO she mostly drank her formula. We did experiment with a few different things, like papaya- which she loved. I also would have this Almond milk smoothie every morning with frozen peaches in it and almond butter with cardamom, she LOVED that too- I guess she isn’t allergic to almonds! The hotels and restaurants weren’t very accommodating about whizzing up a banana or avocado- and Sasha likes hers like whipped butter, so that didn’t work out so well. She survived though…..
Here she is my little star! I hope you enjoy the pics…
She did GREAT on her first vacation! We bonded as a family, but I especially got to watch Mario & Sasha bond- It was beautiful. She loves her daddy! WE LOVE OUR LITTLE GIRL!
