Don’t judge. I have to tell you that it’s probably been about twenty years since a donut has touched my lips! You know what? Maybe even longer, I gotta be honest. I’m not bragging, I’m not being snooty about it either (I can’t stand those moms), I’m just stating a fact. Here’s the thing friends, when you do as much reading about nutrition as I have over the years, you tend to stay away from SHIT food. I get the whole “Oh it’s so yummy” or “Oh you don’t know what your missing” or “you’re so boring” but let me ask you, WHAT EXACTLY AM I MISSING? People laugh at me when I say hot dogs are GROSS! I gag when I see them, and I feel so bad for little kids who are eating them (because they have no idea). D0 you even know how hot dogs are made?? Donuts are made of dough, they are deep fried and loaded with sugar! One more question for you, what part of the donut has any sort of nutritional value?? ZERO friends! ZERO! I won’t judge anyone who loves this stuff, I never did and never will. That’s not my job. My job is to feed my family the healthiest most nutrient dense foods I can find in order to keep us all healthy fit and disease free for life!
Now that Sasha is almost four, I see that she is becoming more and more curious about foods, candy, treats, and snacks. She’s a kid. That’s what kids want. But that doesn’t mean that they should have the crap that’s out there because they may be missing out on something- The only things my kid is “MISSING OUT” on are cavities, stomach issues, and diabetes. You give me the most sugar loaded treat, and I will either search for or find something healthier and just as tasty so she NEVER feels what people say she will.
She’s asked about donuts and I have explained about the whole sugar thing and now the cavity monsters will drill holes in her teeth! (YUP!). I also told her I would make her donuts that are healthy and just as yummy with less sugar and grease. I did just that!
Strawberry Protein Donuts
- 2 scoops Nutra Bio – Strawberry Protein
- 2 tablespoons Almond Flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder (2.5ml)
- a dash of ground nutmeg
- 2 large egg whites at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
- 2 Tbsp. Greek Yogurt
- 1/2 Tsp. Nutra Bio strawberry protein
- 1 tablespoon Honey
Preheat oven to 325F Mix protein powder, coconut flour, baking powder, and nutmeg until well combined.
Add egg whites and coconut oil, and mix well. Spoon the batter into a ziplock bag, and cut off a corner.
Pipe batter into donut pan (mine has 6 rings) Bake for 8 minutes, and see if the donuts are firm. If not, check every 1-2 minutes and remove from oven as soon as they are firm. Let cool slightly, and remove donuts from pan. Once cooled, you can apply your glaze on top.
Place glazed donuts on a parchment-lined dish or tray. On my donuts, I added a sprinkle of my Buckwheat Granola. Sasha wanted her just the way they were!
I had my two little donuts with a hot cup of coffee and sat with little mama until her sitter Amanda came. Then I was off to work for the run that I almost passed out from! More on that run in my next post!
