A book is a dream that you hold in your hand
I’m the mom that comes to your house and sees all the toys you have in every single room in your house plus in your child’s playroom and thinks to myself, I am the worst mom. We don’t have hundreds of toys, we don’t have fifty toys. We have hundreds of books in lots of boxes and all around the house. I wonder sometimes if having lots of toys for Sasha would motivate her to want to play more by herself.
Truth is, she never played with toys. From the time she was around three months old, I started reading to her every single night. No, she didn’t understand what I was saying, but making it a habit, it’s stuck with us and from reading to her every single chance we got, she now is more obsessed with books than I ever imagined.
You name the book and chances are we have it or did have it but donated it because we read it so many times, Sasha now can memorize it word for word. Before Sasha, I wasn’t a big reader. I didn’t like to read in school, probably because I had ADD and couldn’t sit to focus on a sentence in a book to save my life. Reading to Sasha, I have found a new love for books! I haven’t read this many books in my entire life!
When I read to Sasha, it’s not just a book of words and characters, oh no! This mama GETS INTO CHARACTER! The first time I got into character was with her book Every Cow Girl Needs A Horse! This book is so cute! Nellie Sue is a cute little blonde haired girl who does everything with a western flair. Whether it is cleaning up the animal sty (picking up her stuffed animals) or rounding up cattle (getting the neighborhood kids together for her birthday party), she does it like a true cowgirl. All she really needs is a horse. So when Dad announces at her birthday party, “I got a horse right here for you,” Nellie Sue is excited. But when her horse turns out to be her first bicycle, it will take an imagination as big as Texas to help save the day. When I read this book, I sound like I am from Nashville! Mario laughed his butt off when he first heard me read to her! He loves it. I mean, really, how can you read a kids book without getting into it! By the way, if you get that book, you might as well get these ones too, because one is cuter than the next! Every Cowgirl Loves a Rodeo + Every Cowgirl Loves Dancing Boots. I got these books for Sasha when she was only two!
We started to make a date out of going to the bookstore. Sasha and I would go to Greenwich Ave and have breakfast at our favorite little spot Meli-Melo and then walk over to Diane’s Books. It’s a tiny little bookstore filled with the most amazing books. Sasha would grab the books and sit on the floor and just flip through pages. Mama would spend well over $200 a pop when it was all said and done, on children’s books. The best part was that as soon as we would get home, Sasha wanted to curl up next to me and sit and read each and every book! Toys? What are those? LOL!
Noticing that we spend way too much money on books lately, I scaled back a little.
I recently discovered Prime Book Box for kids! You may want to check this out for yourself if your kids are bookworms like my little chick! So, Prime Book Box is a subscription that delivers hand-picked children’s books every 1, 2, or 3 months, you get to pick. I picked two books every month. I noticed that two new books cost me around $20! WHOAH! Then I read that Prime Book Box saves you up to 35% off List Price! That’s a bargain considering I was spending an average of $20 per book in the store!
I figured I would give it a try!
SO based on your child’s age, you can see the books coming to you and check them out. You can swap them for something different or keep what they will send. Each box contains two hardcover books and if you have a little on you would get four board booksWhat’s in a Prime Book Box? Here are our first two books!
I read the book Mr. Ferris and his wheel. uch a beautifully written story about how the Ferris Wheel came to be. I will be reading Dewey Bob tonight!
Head over to Amazon Prime! Check it out! Such a fun little treat for your little ones to look for each month and it won’t break the bank!
